What you're wearing
Cadmium's red line at 643.847 nanometres, splitting at 0.01935 nanometres per tesla. Measure the gap and you have measured the field. It is how the magnetic field of a sunspot was read from 150 million kilometres away. Spectra reads matter by its light.
