Aerial Photos by 1888 Desk Mat
Long before drones, cameras flew on kites.
What you're wearing
In May 1888 Arthur Batut was taking aerial photographs from a kite over Labruguière, France. Here a silk kite painted with a drone lifts an 1880s box camera. Drawn in the manner of a painted silk kite, dye washes bleeding into the weave and the spars showing through. Full-bleed XL desk mat, 16 x 32 in.
